Associate of Science in Medical Billing and Coding – Stonecliffe College Online
Stonecliffe College Online, an academic division of Colorado Technical University, will offer an Associate of Science in Medical Billing and Coding (ASMBC). Enrollments for the ASMBC program will begin immediately; courses will begin in January 2007.
Overview
The ASMBC degree program provides students with the foundation to work in entry-level positions in health care organizations and continued study for more advanced degrees. The general education component focuses on classifying and coding diagnosis and procedures.
The foundations of Billing and Coding are addressed in courses in coding, medical terminology, disease processes, health care organizations and management. Graduates gain concepts and skills that provide the ability to be immediately productive in both public and private health organizations.
ASMBC Degree Program Objectives
Students who successfully complete the ASMBC degree program should be able to:
- Provide entry to mid-level opportunities for graduates to work in health care organizations in the areas of information processing, retention, storage and retrieval;
- Provide graduates the understanding of information technology systems used in the health industry to facilitate the use of collection, interpretation, analysis and retrieval of patient, financial, medical and administrative data and information.
- Provide graduates an understanding of classifying, coding of diagnosis, procedures and protocols used in coding systems in the health industry for medical records, insurance claims and billing for services provided.
- Provide graduates the social, cultural and professional skills that will allow them to successfully perform their role within their chosen medical field.
